HOOK’s single purpose is to identify the song playing in the current Chrome tab and show the title, artist, lyrics overlay, and links to listen.
What we collect
After you tap Identify, press Alt+Shift+H, use the page context menu, or enable Auto, HOOK captures a few seconds of tab audio on your device and derives a fingerprint. HOOK does not create accounts, does not sell data, and does not use data for ads.
What we send
Station originals match on your device and never leave it. When that local catalog misses, an 8-second clip is sent over HTTPS to HOOK’s catalog host, which forwards it to AudD (api.audd.io), a licensed commercial catalog, so the track can be named. If AudD has no match, HOOK may read the playing title from this tab (for example YouTube Music’s player) and may send a fingerprint to Shazam. Album artwork may be fetched only to draw the share card you download. The clip is not stored. You do not need an AudD token.
Parties
HOOK’s catalog host (Cloudflare Worker) forwards the clip to AudD; Apple iTunes and Deezer for catalog artwork and previews; Shazam (Apple) only as a fallback if AudD misses. HOOK is not affiliated with Apple or Shazam. Clips or fingerprints may be processed outside your country by those services.
Storage and deletion
Your library, Auto setting, overlay preference, and optional advanced token live in Chrome extension storage on this computer. Clear library in Settings, or uninstall HOOK, to delete them. There is no HOOK account.
Limited Use
User data is used only to name the playing song and show lyrics and links. We do not sell user data, do not use it for advertising, and do not transfer it except to the identification and catalog services named above as required to identify the track.
Children
HOOK is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
Material changes to this policy will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date.
